| Xanadu | Musical, fantasy, romance | 1980 | Robert Greenwald | It's easy to rag on Xanadu for being a bad movie, but I really love what they were trying to do; the truly divine Olivia Newton-John as one of the Greek Muses falling in love with a mortal artist and guiding him to achieve his dreams, with Gene Kelly as another artist who she formerly guided when he was young? That's such a fun idea for a story, plus the music by ELO is just fantastic, some of the best love songs ever written. I'd love to see a respectful, earnest remake. |
